Spreading love for the earth – 1 tree at a time

To kick start GQ’s long term mission in positively impacting the earth through a series of green initiatives, the much anticipated event finally came to fruition on 28 October, 2023, with The Tree Planting Volunteering event, held in Kuala Langat North reserve Forest to restore the peat swamp forest,  setting an example to the future generations.

The Monthly Tree Planting programme is organised by the Selangor State Forestry Department (SSFD) and Global Environment Centre (GEC) in partnership with various corporate organisations including HSBC Bank Malaysia, Yayasan PETRONAS, Airbnb Community Fund and Prosper Capital Holdings Sdn Bhd.

This Monthly Tree Planting was also conducted in conjunction with Word Habitat Day (2 Oct), Hari Alam Sekitar Malaysia 2023 (21 Oct) and International Day of Climate Action (24 Oct), and World Sustainability Day (26th Oct).

Filled with enthusiasm and excitement, 14 dedicated GQ team members, some with their family and young ones in tow, headed into the forest fully equipped for a revitalizing environmental restoration journey.  It’s heartening to witness young individuals being introduced to sustainable initiatives and environmental consciousness from an early age. Indeed age is not a barrier when it comes to making the planet a greener and safer place to stay where communities thrive.

The tree planting volunteer event saw the total participation of 145 individuals, including 16 representatives from GQ. On that day, a remarkable total of 720 trees were successfully planted.

We are delighted to report that GQ contributed significantly to this effort by planting approximately 90-100 saplings, comprising three distinct native tree species: Tenggek Burung, Pulai, and Kelat Paya.

Additionally, this program was organised to reinforce the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources’ “100 Million Tree Planting Campaign” aimed at increase public awareness regarding environmental conservation and restoration. It also furnishes participants with hands-on experience in the restoration of the peat swamp forest.

Our tree planting endeavour concluded with a rewarding lunch at Gardenage Cafe, fostering a sense of togetherness and unity. We remain committed to mitigating our carbon footprint through various eco-friendly initiatives, be it rewilding projects, tree planting programs, or forging partnerships with environmental charities.
